New information has come to light concerning the tragic passing of renowned director Rob Reiner and artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose remains were found at their residence home on Sunday.
As detailed in an account quoting a person close to the family, a therapist scheduled for an session was the first to notice something was wrong after failing to get inside the house. This individual then contacted the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who lives nearby.
Upon entering the residence, Romy discovered her father's body. Reports state she then fled the house in anguish, unaware at that moment that her mother's body was also inside. Her roommate who had gone with her contacted 911. Following this, paramedics found Michele Singer Reiner's body.
Law enforcement have formally accused the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with two counts of first-degree murder, along with the charge related to a weapon, said to be a knife. He is presently in custody and denied bail.
The person close to the family also disputed several earlier details. It was stated that while Romy Reiner informed first responders that her brother Nick lived in a guesthouse on the grounds, she did not identify him as a suspect at that juncture.
Furthermore refuted widely reported suggestions that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been especially "concerned" about Nick's behavior in the preceding period. The source claimed the family was "accustomed to working through [Nick's] problems together."
The statement also extends to descriptions of alleged "unpredictable" behavior by Nick at a event hosted by Conan O'Brien on the night before the bodies were found. While the source noted they were unable to confirm whether Rob had "scolded" his son at the party, they asserted that reports of a "blow-up" between the two were untrue.
Per law enforcement officials, the coroner had yet to determine as of Tuesday whether the Reiners died Saturday night or on Sunday. Some media reports indicated the state of their bodies implied they had been dead for some hours.
Nick Reiner was apprehended at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Exposition Park, about 15 miles from the family home. He was set to be arraigned on Tuesday, but his legal counsel, Alan Jackson, said his client had a medical issue and would not be present until no sooner than Wednesday.
