Glasgow Commanding in Four-Try Victory at Sale Sharks in European Opener

The Scottish side began their Champions Cup journey in ideal fashion with a crucial four-try away victory against Sale.

With the wind at their backs, Sale began the brighter and built a 14-0 advantage within the first quarter. Scores from Ernst van Rhyn and teenage debutant Ollie Davies put them in command.

But, Glasgow fought back well with a pair of scores prior to half-time. Hooker Hiddleston and back-rower Darge both went over to reduce the gap.

Additional after the break tries from Kyle Steyn and Stafford McDowall extended Glasgow's lead to 26-14. A late reply for Sale promised a tense finale, but Glasgow held firm to claim a significant first-round win.

Glasgow Seize Initiative Following Interval

The match began with a quick try as skipper Van Rhyn drove over from close range after only two minutes. A first-half knock to centre Ma'asi-White brought 19-year-old Davies into the fray for his European debut.

Davies made an instant impact. Switching to fly-half, he ran a good support line to collect an pass and score, making Sale's advantage.

Facing difficult weather, Glasgow used their forward power to fight back into the contest. A strong driving maul was touched down by hooker Hiddleston. Prior to the break, Darge forced his way over, with Hastings' kick making it a two-point game at the interval.

Glasgow seized the advantage for the first time soon after the second half. A poor kick was collected by No. 8 Jack Dempsey, who fed skipper Kyle Steyn to burst through a challenge and race away to the line.

Now in the ascendancy, they clinched the fourth try when Stafford McDowall powered past a defender to score his century for the team. This try capped a run of twenty-six unanswered points.

The hosts gave themselves a late hope when Louw showed neat skills to score. The kick made it a one-score game with time remaining.

One last chance arose for Sale from a line-out in the 22, but they lost the ball, sealing the Warriors' victory.

What's Next?

Sale Sharks must regroup ahead of a journey to face Clermont next Saturday. Meanwhile, Glasgow will welcome European giants Toulouse to Scotstoun.

Both sides are placed in a competitive first pool that also features the English side and Durban-based outfit the Sharks.
