Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched operations across the region in retaliation for a "massive" and continuing attack against it by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area near the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any destruction is uncertain and the United States has remained silent.
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - said they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their air space.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on Iran launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That initial attack - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on areas linked to the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.
In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates stated that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems dealt with the missiles with high efficiency and shot down a several projectiles," it added.
It said debris fell on a populated district in the capital, causing some structural damage and the death of one civilian.
The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
