New York Jets Head Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and is confident the player will be OK after being shot in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn noted that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “in good spirits” during their latest talk.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn commented. “His wife and child, they are holding up and he is expected to recover fully.”

It remained unclear when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where his condition is described as in critical but steady condition.

“Don’t know just yet,” Glenn remarked. “However, I can share, just talking to him, he felt really upbeat. Once more, that reassures me, that he feels like that and his words reflect that optimism.”

Authorities released security footage Monday of an individual wanted in the incident involving Boyd. The reason behind the incident is still being looked into and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was targeted. There were no additional victims were reported.

The incident occurred in the early morning on Sunday morning about halfway between MSG and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to a local hospital after being shot in the abdomen, police said. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn shared Boyd has been on his mind “a ton” since he heard about the shooting. The coach said that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a newborn.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he just had a kid,” Glenn said. “My mind went to his family, considering his child and my priority is his well-being. That was my main concern.
“A certain process is underway, that I won’t detail, but I’m happy at the fact that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd hasn’t played in the present campaign, after joining the team, after his season was cut short due to injury on mid-August with an injury to his shoulder that needed an operation.

Boyd came to New York as an unrestricted free agent in March and was expected to be a key part of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during a practice session on August 2 and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd continued to be present during the entire campaign while healing from his surgery.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn said. “Certainly, he attends every game. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, began his career with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad subsequently. Boyd signed a one-year contract worth $1.6m with the Jets in the spring.
