Over 50 Minor Migrant Minors Have Not Been Located Subsequent to Disappearing from State Care in the United Kingdom

More than 50 lone young refugees who vanished shortly after coming the UK and while under the supervision of government agencies are yet to be found, based on information acquired.

Nationality Breakdown of Missing Children

In each instance, minors from Albania were the biggest contingent to go missing, accounting for a full half the aggregate from the temporary accommodations, 68, and in excess of one-fourth from the care facilities, 65.

The next most common nationalities to have gone missing from the two settings are Afghan nationals followed by Iranians.

These minors should be engaging in sports in the park and studying for their exams, not working for smuggling networks in situations we know involve being tied up, abused and mistreated, and punished by being denied nourishment."

Regulatory Updates and Ongoing Concerns

In December 2023, following a long-running legal proceeding involving lone child asylum seekers disappearing from all hotels, the procedure of routinely accommodating children in hotels was deemed improper.

Instead, agencies committed to enhance safeguards for these children by enlarging the use of care facilities. Since that court ruling an additional 44 children have vanished from these centres, with 10 remaining unaccounted for and 34 found.

"If a youth does go missing, the risk that they are being abused grows markedly and they are certainly more vulnerable to abuse and trafficking."
