Adam Wharton His maiden beginning with the national team. Somewhat sloppy on the ball however his dangerous deliveries posed a danger. An effective pace-controller for the coach to have versus sides that sit back. Booked for a rash foul. 6/10

The midfielder Set-pieces from dead balls and set-plays caused problems. Had license to roam on the left only to be in an offside position when the ball arrived in shooting positions. Granted a well-earned break around the 60-minute point. Six

The star midfielder Functioned in a forward spot on the right while also did plenty of dirty work. Showed moments of class but dragged an attempt over. Replaced late on for Rogers, a fellow player, following a yellow card. Seven

The winger Was presented with the team's top opening of the first half, his strike smartly stopped by Thomas Strakosha. With a teammate staying deep, he was forced to offer an outlet down the right side although his balls into the box were hit and miss. Replaced late in the match. 6/10

The captain The match-winner with his seventy-seventh and seventy-eighth finishes for his country. His first a classic opportunist's goal while the second a classy header having drifted away away from the opposition. Now 32, his form is unwavering and England stand a real opportunity in future competitions with him up top. 8

The attacker Struggled to make an impact from the left. Had a presentable chance following a pass from a teammate but Strakosha denied him. His replacement had a greater influence when substituted. 5
